Dominika Borovansky Gaines

Dominika Borovansky Gaines, Owner & Visionary

As the Owner and Visionary behind Kinesphere Center for Movement Education, Dominika has created a unique, wellness-based studio that emphasizes cutting-edge and mindful practices for healing and optimizing the human body and spirit. It is Dominika’s belief that the body has an innate ability to heal itself and that movement is fundamental to one’s health.

Her own experience of the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® as liberating, inspiring, energizing and re-balancing, impelled her to share this genius system by becoming an instructor. As a GYROTONIC® Master Trainer, GYROTONER® Teacher Trainer, and GYROKINESIS® Pre-Trainer, Dominika focuses on clarity and precision in hands-on and verbal cueing, understanding what we are teaching and why, and nurturing each instructor’s innate curiosity.

Training under and certified by founder/creator Juliu Horvath, Dominika completed her Level I training in 1999, Level II certification in 2001, became a GYROTONIC® Pre-Trainer in 2003 and a Master Trainer in 2006. She added the role of GYROKINESIS® Pre-Trainer in 2016 and GYROTONER® Master Trainer in 2018. She holds additional certification on the specialized equipment (Jumping-Stretching Board and Leg Extension Unit) and has completed specialized courses in GYROTONIC® Applications for Golf, for Dancers, for Hip Replacements, for the Hip and Knee and Therapeutic Applications for the Shoulder.

Dominika has an extensive background in dance and movement, including the study of Anatomy, Dance Kinesiology, Ideokinesis and numerous somatic practices. In addition to the teaching of the GYROTONIC® method, she is a Nutritious Movement™ certified RES-CPT, PMA®-CPT and a SmartSpine™ Ambassador.

As a dancer, Dominika received numerous scholarships and awards for artistic and technical performance, was lauded for her choreography and from 1995-2002 was the Artistic Director of Semaphor DanceWorks, a company she founded. She holds both a BFA and MFA in Dance and Performance from Arizona State University.

Lisa Perry

Lisa Perry, Associate Director

Lisa Perry, Associate Director at KCME, has been part of the Kinesphere team since its founding in 2001. Her background of knowledge includes a vast understanding in anatomy, kinesiology, biomechanics, and ideokinesis. As a movement educator, Lisa’s primary focus is promoting whole body wellness and specializes in helping others gain an awareness of their postural habits and work toward healthier movement choices. She is an authorized Master Trainer for The SmartSpine© Academy and is able to conduct trainings combining Core Intelligence™ and the SmartSpine© system. Lisa currently holds certifications in the following: Nutritious Movement™ certified Restorative Exercise Specialist, GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM®, GYROTONIC® Jumping-Stretching Board, Pilates Method Alliance, Core Intelligence™, and SmartSpine©.

Lisa’s inclination for movement and body mechanics began as a child, which led to her an in-depth study of anatomy, kinesiology, and biomechanics. Always curious about the body and testing its physical limitations, she could almost always be found climbing to the top of large trees, figure skating, or dancing. Her thirst for a deeper conception of movement led her to study dance at Scottsdale Community College where she was introduced to Pilates by Dominika Borovansky Gaines in 1996. After suffering a serious hip injury in 1999, she found pain relief while studying Gyrotonic exercise under Dominika’s instruction. Lisa continued her studies in dance and earned a BFA in Dance Education from Arizona State University in 2001. During her time at ASU, she was introduced to kinesiology and ideokinesis by Pam Matt, which enriched her understanding of the inner workings of the human body. She became a certified Gyrotonic Instructor in 2002 and earned a Pilates Certificate from Long Beach Dance Conditioning (LBDC) in 2003. In 2013, she discovered Restorative Exercise, an alignment-focused movement system, and earned her certification under Nutritious Movement™ founder and biomechanist Katy Bowman. Following the lead of LBDC and SmartSpine© founder Marie Jose’ Blom, Lisa continues to cultivate her intense focus on the development of deep core strength and the integration of biomechanics into movement instruction.

Lisa Thorngren

Lisa Thorngren

Lisa is certified in Pilates & Restorative Exercise and utilizes a lot of Neurokinetic Therapy® and Z-Health in her instruction. Lisa has always been interested in movement: first as a very young dancer, then as an aide in a physical therapy clinic, and now as a teacher of dance, Pilates and Restorative Exercise. Though her path to Pilates was anything but direct, Lisa’s varied experiences have all shaped how she currently thinks about movement and dance.

After receiving her BS in Mathematics from the University of Puget Sound in 2002, Lisa returned to her first love, dance, and began searching for a way to combine her passion for science with dance. She took numerous courses in anatomy and kinesiology to further her knowledge of these subjects, and she applied this knowledge while working at a physical therapy clinic. It was during this time that Lisa was first introduced to Pilates. As a dancer, Lisa quickly recognized the benefits of Pilates as a conditioning program, and she appreciates the qualities of Pilates that improve well-being, such as breath, mental focus, and the resulting increase in body awareness. After receiving her MFA in Dance from Arizona State University, Lisa decided to pursue her certification in Pilates, and she completed her comprehensive training with Karen Clippinger through Body Arts and Science International in 2008. Since then, Lisa has taught Pilates at Kinesphere in Phoenix, Arizona, along with many dance courses at Grand Canyon University and Scottsdale Community College.

In 2013, Lisa furthered her knowledge of biomechanical principles through her certification as a Restorative Exercise Specialist through Nutritious Movement™. Her most recent studies focus on the role of the nervous system in movement and health, and she is currently an R-Phase & I-Phase Trainer through Z-Health. Lisa’s teaching combines her knowledge of biomechanics and neuroscience with her previous dance and Pilates experiences to enhance and improve health and well-being.
